Patrick Winters

Patrick Winters SAC (born October 8, 1908 in Ramore , County Galway , † April 1, 1994 in Thurles ) was Bishop of Mbulu .

Life

Winters was educated at St. Joseph College, Garbally Park, Ballinasloe . After working for four years, Winters entered the Pallottine College in Thurles to become a priest. In Thurles he studied philosophy at St. Patrick's College. Winters moved to Rome to study theology at the Gregorian between 1935 and 1939 and was ordained a priest on July 3, 1938. He obtained his licentiate in sacred theology in 1939 .

The Pope appointed him Apostolic Prefect of Mbulu on January 29, 1944 . On January 10, 1952, Pius XII appointed him . Titular Bishop of Burca and Vicar Apostolic of Mbulu. The Archbishop of Cashel and Emly , Jeremiah Kinane , ordained him episcopal on May 4th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Michael John Browne , Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh , and John Heffernan CSSp , Vicar Apostolic of Zanzibar . On March 25, 1953, he was appointed Bishop of Mbulu. He attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . He resigned from his post on July 3, 1971. After retiring, he moved to Ireland and served as a priest. He spent his later life at the Pallottine College in Thurles, where he died on Good Friday on April 1, 1994 and was buried in the Pallottine Parish Cemetery in St. Marys, Cabra, Thurles.
