Patrizia Scascitelli

Patrizia Scascitelli (born October 15, 1949 in Rome ) is an Italian jazz pianist .

Live and act

Scascitelli was initially considered a pianistic prodigy . She studied classical piano at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia . She completed a jazz course led by Giorgio Gaslini with a thesis on the influence of classical music on Chick Corea . She worked with Massimo Urbani and Bruno Tommaso .

From 1973 onwards, she and her trio had performed well at the Umbria, Bergamo, Bologna and Pescara festivals. Her debut album Ballata in 1974 showed influences from Italian folk music. She toured Italy with Don Cherry . Then she founded her band Life Force with saxophonist Larry Dinwiddie and drummer Marvin "Boogaloo" Smith and percussionist Karl Potter, with whom she performed until 1978. Scascitelli was engaged in Latin jazz and wrote music for the theater.

In 1981 she moved to New York City , where she studied with Barry Harris , formed a trio with Jimmy Garrett and Stanley Bailey, and worked with musicians such as Clifford Jordan , David Fathead Newman , Buster Williams , Maxine Sullivan and Charles McGhee . In the last few years she has performed more often with Carol Sudhalter . Since 1998 she played again regularly in Italy. Her solo album Live in Rome was named one of the best productions of the year by Musica Jazz magazine ; she herself was named "Musician of the Year" 2003 by the same magazine.
