Paolino Dalla Porta

Paolino Dalla Porta (born July 25, 1956 in Mantua ) is an Italian double bass player and composer of modern jazz and improvisation music .

Dalla Porta initially learned guitar for ten years; It was not until 1977 that he switched to the double bass. Around 1980 he was a member of various key groups on the Milanese scene such as DOM Alia Orchestra or Nexus and accompanied Arrigo Cappelletti , Claudio Fasoli and Tiziana Ghiglioni . Since 1988 he has led his own quartet. The project Far Away , the Lester Bowie included, he toured North America and Australia, with Alain Brunet through Polynesia . In collaboration with the pianist Stefano Battaglia , various recordings were made: together with drummers Aldo Romano or Tony Oxley ( Sulfur ), with Kenny Wheeler and Billy Elgart ( Tales , Soul Note 1993) or with Dominique Pifarély (Triplicity, Dischi Della Quercia 1993) . He played electro-acoustic music with Gabriele Mirabassi . He also worked with Pino Minafra ( Colori ), with Fabrizio Sferra , with John Tchicai , with Massimo Manzi , with Rita Marcotulli , with Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink and with Gianluca Petrella . In 2015 he replaced Glen Moore in Oregon .
