Dame Patricia Lee " Patsy " Reddy (born May 17, 1954 in Matamata , Waikato ) is a New Zealand attorney and since September 14, 2016 the 21st  Governor General of New Zealand .

Early life and education

Patsy Reddy was born in 1955 in Matamata as the daughter of Neil and Kay Reddy . Her parents were both teachers. She grew up first in Te Akau and later in Minginui in the Bay of Plenty region . When she was six years old, her parents moved to Hamilton , where she attended Hillcrest Primary School , Peachgrove Intermediate and Hamilton Girls' High School in turn . She graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 1979 with a Master of Laws and First Class Honors .

Career

After graduating, she worked as a lecturer in the Faculty of Law at her university. In 1982 she then left the university sector and took up a position as a lawyer in the Australian company Watts and Patterson , based in Auckland and Wellington , later renamed Minter Ellison Rudd Watts . In 1983 she started there as a business partner. In 1987 she moved to Brierley Investments Ltd , where she took on the manager position for the “Special Projects” division. In 1999 she and two colleagues decided to found Active Equities Limited , which was active in the investment business.

Reddy was CEO of New Zealand Film Commission , deputy chairman of the New Zealand Transport Agency and Chefverhandlerin for the Treaty-of - Waitangi -Ansiedlungen Tauranga Moana and Te Toko Toru . Most recently she worked with Michael Cullen on a legislative revision for New Zealand's intelligence agencies before assuming the office of Governor General .

On September 14, 2016, she was appointed 21st Governor-General of New Zealand , replacing Jerry Mateparae , who held the office until August 31, 2016.
