Paul-Georg Custodis

Paul-Georg Custodis (born January 13, 1940 in Hanover ) is a German architect and monument conservator .

Career

Paul-Georg Custodis, great-great-great-nephew of the royal court architect Max Joseph Custodis , was born in Hanover in 1940 during the Second World War . The war years and the post-war period overshadowed his childhood. He comes from a Cologne family. From 1959 to 1966 he studied architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt . He then did an apprenticeship for the higher civil engineering administration of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

From 1969 to 1973, Custodis was the head of the planning office for the city of Brühl (Rhineland) . From 1973 until his retirement in 2005, he then held a number of positions at the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Rhineland-Palatinate : Research Associate , Area Advisor and, finally, Construction Director. In addition, from 1984 to 2005 he was a cross-sectional consultant for industrial monument preservation. In this context he was responsible for the restoration of the Sayner Hütte , a former ironworks in Bendorf , for over 10 years . Since 2010 he has been an honorary member of the Friends of Sayner Hütte.

In 1979 he was at the RWTH Aachen to Dr.-Ing. PhD. The topic of his doctoral thesis was: The city architect Eduard Kreyssig and the building development of the city of Mainz in the 2nd half of the 19th century.

In the course of his life, Custodis worked as an author of scientific articles and specialist books and as a hobby painter and draftsman.
