Paul Bahlmann

Paul Bahlmann (born April 19, 1857 in Neustadt in Upper Silesia , † September 15, 1937 in Münster ) was a German librarian and folklorist. He is considered one of the founders of the Westphalian homeland movement .

Life

Bahlmann was the son of the Prussian politician Wilhelm Bahlmann and studied natural science in Berlin and Göttingen and later dealt with agricultural sciences . From 1882 to 1884 he was active in the school service. He received his doctorate in Erlangen in 1885 . From 1886 he worked in the Bibliotheca Paulina in Münster and turned to literature and local history. He was appointed librarian in 1894, professor in 1898, senior librarian in 1902 and finally senior librarian .

In 1896 he was one of the founding members of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . For his achievements as a captain in World War Bahlmann was awarded the Iron Cross awarded.

The Bahlmannstrasse in the “New Poet's Quarter” in Münster is named after him.
