Paul Bertololy (born February 12, 1892 in Frankenthal , Pfalz; † November 28, 1972 in Lembach , Alsace ) was a German doctor and writer.

Life

Born as the son of the doctor Karl Bertololy from Coswig (Saxony) , Paul Bertololy spent his childhood in the Palatinate. After attending school in Lambrecht, Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Grünstadt , Munich, Aalen and Gmünd, he studied medicine in Heidelberg, Strasbourg and Freiburg. In Heidelberg he belonged to the Corps Rhenania , whose story inspired him to write the cultural-historical novel Alt-Heidelberg, Eternal Student's Dream.

In 1919 he received his doctorate in medicine and later settled down as a country doctor in Lembach in Alsace. Bertololy wrote novels, novellas, short stories and radio plays that were published by Paul List Verlag Munich, the Palatinate Publishing House in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse , Hohenstaufen Verlag (Bodmann) and Verlag Alsatia in Freiburg. He was the recipient of several literary prizes, including the Upper Rhine Culture Prize of the JW von Goethe Foundation in Basel in 1969 and the René Schickele Media Prize in 1973. The Alsatian community of Lembach made him an honorary citizen .

Berololy found his final resting place in the cemetery in Souffelweyersheim .
