Paul Conrad

Paul Conrad (born June 27, 1924 in Cedar Rapids , Iowa , † September 4, 2010 in Rancho Palos Verdes ) was an American cartoonist.

Career

Conrad studied art in Seattle and earned a BA in Art from the University of Iowa in 1950 . Since then he has worked for various newspapers, including around 30 years for the Los Angeles Times . Conrad caricatured several US presidents, most notably Richard Nixon .

Conrad wrote several books and his work is on permanent display at the Library of Congress .

He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize three times (1964, 1971 and 1984) for editorial cartooning . Conrad also won the Overseas Press Club awards twice (1981 and 1970) and in 1988 the Society of Professional Journalists / Sigma Delta Chi (SDX) presented him with the seventh Distinguished Service Award for Editorial Cartooning .

Conrad was married to Kay King, a society reporter for The Denver Post . They had two sons and two daughters.
