Paul Döhle

Karl Gottfried Paul Döhle (born June 6, 1855 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia , † December 7, 1928 in Kiel ) was a German pathologist .

Life path

Paul Döhle studied medicine in Tübingen , Leipzig , Strasbourg and Kiel . In 1883 he became assistant to Arnold Ludwig Heller at the Pathological Institute of Kiel University . He received his doctorate in Kiel in 1885 . In 1889 he received his habilitation in pathology . In 1896 he became a professor at the Pathological Institute. In 1908 he took over its management. He stayed at Kiel University until his retirement in 1924.

The Döhle bodies (inclusions in leukocytes ), which he discovered in 30 scarlet fever patients in 1911 , are named after him. The Döhle-Heller syndrome (a late symptom of syphilis ) also bears his name.
