Paul Daimler (born September 13, 1869 in Karlsruhe , † December 15, 1945 in Berlin ) was a German designer and the eldest of Gottlieb Daimler's five children from his first marriage.

After studying at the Technical University of Stuttgart , he first worked in his father's company in Cannstatt. On November 10, 1885, he took his father's “ riding car ”, the world's first motorcycle , for a trip from Cannstatt to Untertürkheim .

In 1902 Paul Daimler became a personally liable partner at the Austrian Daimler-Motoren-Commanditgesellschaft ( Austro-Daimler ) in Wiener Neustadt , where he held the position of technical director (chief designer). He constructed u. a. the Austro-Daimler armored car with all-wheel drive presented in 1906 . From 1907 to 1922 he was technical director of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim with plants in Berlin-Marienfelde and Sindelfingen (from 1915).

Moritz Straus , who owned the majority of shares in Argus Motoren Gesellschaft in Berlin and Horchwerke in Zwickau , hired Paul Daimler as chief designer at Argus on July 1, 1923, where he was responsible for the development of the Horch engines in addition to aircraft engines until 1928 was. A constant companion of his work today are the hydraulic valve lifters , which were first used in German automotive engineering in 1931 in the Horch 670 ; in the US they came back in 1930 in the sixteen-cylinder - V engine of the Cadillac 452 used.
