Paul Dolscius (also: Dolscio ; * 1526 in Plauen ; † March 9, 1589 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German physician , educator and poet .

Life

Born as the son of Johann Dölsch , he enjoyed his first training, taught by his father. He went to the University of Wittenberg at an early age , where he received his support primarily from Philipp Melanchthon . Inspired by this, he dealt with the Greek language and was recommended by him in 1551 as rector of the parochial school at the Marienkirche in Halle .

He held this position until 1560 and went to Italy to study medicine. From there he returned to Halle as a doctor of medicine and became a city ​​physician . In 1573 he took over the office of chief norn master, in 1575, as church father, he became a member of the parish council of St.

During his time as rector in particular, he wrote various Greek poems and translations with which he made a name for himself. Because he had married into influential Halle families twice, he also got into the respectable offices. The son Augustin is known from his first marriage to Marie, the daughter of the master and Pfänner Wolfgang Bausen, on August 14, 1554 .

After his first wife died, he married Anne, the daughter of the Halle chamberlain, Hans Kost. The children Miriam and Benignam are known from their second marriage. In memory of his offspring he built in 1568 in the Halle Stadtgottesacker a stone with his hewn image Latin epitaph and a Greek couplet .
