Paul Eagler
Paul E. Eagler (born September 24, 1890 in Newman , Illinois , † September 30, 1961 in Sherman Oaks , California ) was an American photographer , cameraman for special effects artist , who won an Oscar for best special effects and one more time for was nominated for an Oscar in this category.
Life
Eagler began his career in the Hollywood film industry as a cameraman in 1917 for the silent film The Pinch Hitter by Victor Schertzinger with Charles Ray , Sylvia Breamer and Joseph J. Dowling . Later he worked as a cameraman and photographer in particular with special effects and was involved in the production of over thirty films by 1960.
At the Academy Awards in 1941 , Eagler, along with sound engineer Thomas T. Moulton, was nominated for the Oscar for best special effects , for the Alfred Hitchcock- directed thriller The Foreign Correspondent (1940) with Joel McCrea , Laraine Day and Herbert Marshall
1949 Eagler won together with J. McMillan Johnson , Russell Shearman , Clarence Slifer , Charles L. Freeman and James G. Stewart the Oscar for the best special effects in the fantasy film Jenny (alternative title Jennie - Das Portrait einer Liebe, original title Portrait of Jennie, 1948 ) by William Dieterle with Jennifer Jones , Joseph Cotten and Ethel Barrymore .
