Paul Erbrich (born February 23, 1928 in Rorschach ; † May 29, 2009 in Munich ) was a Swiss philosopher and Jesuit and professor of natural philosophy at the Munich School of Philosophy .

Life

Erbrich was born into a family of bakers. After graduating from high school in St. Gallen , he entered the Jesuit novitiate in Switzerland in 1947. After studying philosophy in Pullach, teaching at the Stella Matutina in Feldkirch (the college of the Swiss Jesuits) and studying theology in Belgium, he was ordained a priest in Bad Schönbrunn in 1956 . He then studied natural history and philosophy at the University of Vienna and completed his studies in 1965 with a doctorate in natural sciences. He then worked at the Stella Matutina until it closed in 1979 as a teacher of natural history, chemistry and philosophy.

His academic activity began during this time. 1970–1979 he was a lecturer in chemistry at the Pedagogical Academy in Vorarlberg. In 1973 he gave lectures at the Gregoriana in Rome . He has been invited several times to give lectures at the universities in Sao Leopoldo (Brazil). In 1979 Erbrich moved to Munich and was Professor of Natural Philosophy there until his retirement in 1996.

In 2006 Erbrich took part in the conference "Creation and Evolution" in Castel Gandolfo , to which Pope Benedict XVI. invited.

In his works Erbrich dealt primarily with the relationship between creation and evolution as well as with ecological questions such as the limits of growth .
