Jiblea Fort in the Dacian Limites

The Jiblea Fort is a presumed former Roman auxiliary troop camp in the area of the village Jiblea Veche in the district of Vâlcea , in Romania, which belongs to the urban area of Călimăneşti . In ancient times it was part of the Limes Alutanus and would have administratively to the province of Dacia Inferior , and later for Dacia Malvensis belongs.

location

The suspected archaeological area is in the Găitini corridor , in the fields south of the village of Jiblea Veche, on the left, also southern bank of the Coisca stream, about one kilometer east of its confluence with the Olt . No traces are visible in the terrain.

Archaeological situation

The place has been little explored. The assumption that there is a fort there is based more on the concentration of finds than on clear archaeological findings . The existence of the auxiliary fort is controversial within Romanian archeology. While Nicolae Gudea (1997) assumes it is certain, it is questioned by Cristian M. Vlădescu (who in 1970 together with Gheorghe Poenaru Bordea had carried out the only significant investigations to date) and Felix Marcu (2009). In this context, it is also noticeable that the suspected area has not yet been entered in the national list of historical monuments ( Lista Monumentelor Istorice ) of Romania.

Lost property

The finds are kept in the Muzeul Militar National (National Military Museum) in Bucharest .
