Tia Mare fort in the course of the Dacian Limites

The Tia Mare fort is a former Roman auxiliary fort in the area of the municipality of Tia Mare , Olt district , on the border between the Romanian regions of Little Wallachia and Great Wallachia .

location

The location of the fort is to the east above the Olt river opposite the present-day village of Tia Mare. Deformations of the ground suggest a fort fortification. Due to the elevated position, the fort crew would have been able to monitor ship traffic on the Olt and land traffic on the Limes Road, which runs parallel to the river on the other bank.

Knowledge

Dumitru Tudor , who had already dealt with the possible fort location in 1942, 1953, 1965, 1968 and 1969, postulated a small fort made of stone in 1978 with a square floor plan of around 30 m by 30 m, corresponding to a floor area of 900 square meters. If the perceptible deformations of the ground correspond to the plan of the fort, the sides of the fort were oriented roughly in the four cardinal directions. The fort would have been part of the Limes Alutanus and administratively would have belonged to the province of Dacia inferior , later to the Dacia Malviensis . The area in question has not yet been archaeologically excavated .
