Wall systems in Dacia

The list of forts in Dacia (limes Daciae) includes the previously known Roman military camps that control and defend the main road connections and external borders of the provinces

  • Dacia Superior (later Dacia Apulensis ),
  • Dacia Inferior (later Dacia Malvensis ) and
  • Dacia Porolissensis

served in today's Hungary , Romania and Serbia (research status 1997).

The route is based on a recording scheme created by Nicolae Gudea , which combines the individual Limes sections of all three Dacian provinces and divides them into three main groups and eleven subsections. In addition, the forts were given serial numbers from 1 to 104. The main groups are as follows:

  • Route A (outer lines, sections I-XI) begins at Bulci and ends at Pleșa .
  • Route B (intermediate lines, two provinces) starts at Cristești and ends at Gherla .
  • Route C (central defenses) starts at Alba Iulia and ends at Turda .

Only those fortifications that are known as bases of legions or auxiliary troop cohorts have been included in this list. Smaller fortifications of the Burgus type (e.g. Valea Boului, Voislova, Moigrad and Ighlu) and watchtowers are not considered.
