The Basilica Cistern in Constantinople

The list of Roman cisterns provides an overview of water storage tanks of the Roman Empire in antiquity . The freshwater reservoirs were mostly located at the end points of aqueducts , where they were used to supply urban households, country estates , imperial palaces, thermal baths or bases of the Roman fleet .
