List of Roman columnar monuments
The list of Roman column monuments includes columns of honor and victory columns erected during the Roman Empire . These pillar monuments either consist of stone monoliths or were built from column drums ; in this case, a spiral staircase often led up to the top in the hollow interior .
The first Roman column of honor is the Trajan's Column , consecrated in 113 AD , which still shapes the idea of this type of architecture in terms of both its external appearance and its political propaganda function. The imperial capitals Rome and Constantinople housed most of the ancient columnar monuments.
list
The list is ordered by date of completion. All dimensions are given in meters ; It must be taken into account that the column structure is based on the Roman foot , which the ancient architects used to determine the harmonious proportions of the building.
