Paul Gerhard Klussmann

Paul Gerhard Klussmann (born February 25, 1923 in Bielefeld ; † June 13, 2019 ) was a German specialist in German studies and a university professor .

Life

Klussmann studied in Münster with Benno von Wiese and Wolfdietrich Rasch . After his dissertation with the title The Interpretation of Art and the Determination of the Poet with Stefan George , he worked for some time in the school service and later as a research assistant with Rasch. In 1965 Klussmann was appointed professor for modern German literature at the Pedagogical University in Siegen , and in 1971 at the Ruhr University in Bochum . Until his retirement in 1988, Klussmann was Professor of German Studies at the Faculty of Philology .

Act

Klussmann was regarded as a Stefan George expert and specialist in German literature of the Romantic period and the Biedermeier period . Another focus was comparative research on Germany and the division of Germany . From 1989 to 2002 he was managing director of the Institute for German Research , which he co-founded and which researches the German unification process across faculties . Since 2002 he has been the deputy managing director there. From 1995 to 2000 he headed the Bochum model for the further qualification of Russian Germanists and, since 2001, the International Doctoral College East-West . In 1998 he was visiting professor at the University of Bologna .

Awards

On his retirement and again in 1999, Festschriften were published in his honor.

In 2000, Klussmann received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class, “for his outstanding commitment to international cooperation between universities and the promotion of the process of German unity” .

In 2003 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bologna .
