Griffin has been active as a cross-country skier for his home country since the 2008/09 season and completed his first competitions in the Alpine Cup in February 2009. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he started in the 50 km freestyle discipline, but was lapped and scored 61st in the end. In the FIS races that took place after the World Championship , Griffin either did not start or only scored back places. At the US Championships in Anchorage in 2010 , he achieved 99th place. Only twelve days later he reached 36th place out of a total of 37 starters at the FIS race in Bozeman .
