Paul Herbert Freyer
Paul Herbert Freyer (born November 4, 1920 in Crimmitschau ; † August 13, 1983 in Neuendorf (Hiddensee)) was a German writer and dramaturge who also published under the pseudonyms Flacon Chanel and Claus Jürgens .
Life
Paul Herbert Freyer went to merchant shipping at the age of 16 immediately after graduating from school and wrote articles for newspapers and magazines during the Second World War . After the war, he first turned to the theater. From 1947 he was dramaturge at the city theater in Crimmitschau, then chief dramaturge in Gera and at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater in Berlin. In 1955 he moved to Plauen as artistic director and in 1956 as general director to Karl-Marx-Stadt , before settling in Kleinmachnow as a freelance writer in 1960 .
At first he wrote numerous plays, his play "Auf Lost Posten" was played as far as Japan, later entertaining stories for the television of the GDR "and non-fiction books about the naval history of the Second World War such as" Sturmvögel "and Death on all seas , which had numerous editions and has been translated into several languages. Freyer visited the jungle doctor Albert Schweitzer in Lambarene several times . He organized many aid programs from the DRK of the GDR to Lambarene, in 1965 Freyer was a guest at the North Pole Station 19 in the Arctic Ocean, from where he brought a baby polar bear to Berlin and donated it to Tierpark Berlin, the mother animal attacked the station and had to be shot.
In 1978 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
He was buried in the artist department of the Berlin Central Cemetery in Friedrichsfelde .
