The celluloid goods factory Dr. In the 19th and 20th centuries, P. Hunaeus was a factory in Hanover-Linden specializing in the production of celluloid goods , which, in addition to bicycle accessories, also produced children's toys and dolls .

Locations

The company Dr. Paul Hunaeus was founded in 1890 and, according to a newspaper advertisement from 1895, had its seat at Leinaustraße 9 (today in Linden-Nord , a district of Hanover ). After the Hanoverian archivist Helmut Zimmermann , however, the street north of Limmerstrasse was not laid out until 1896 and "named after Georg Friedrich Brakebusch & Sohn's wallpaper factory» Leinau « . Products

Trademarks

The trademark PH was registered in 1901, Natura in 1927 and the Peha trademark in 1928 .

Bike accessories

The Dr. Paul Hunaeus Celluloidwaren factory advertised early in relevant journals and their accessories for bicycles : The ad promoted a finely drawn stitch around for "celluloid sirens , transparent Oelkännchen", a "dust-proof celluloid chain case ", air pumps and removable and roll-up " Strainer ". In the magazine Radmarkt in 1896 the company stated about their bicycle grips (which were also available in a combination of celluloid and cork ):

"The grip has the advantage that the ball of the foot joins the naturally clenched hand and loads the tendons of the hand evenly, which prevents cramps from occurring ."

Toys and dolls

The company later became known primarily for its children's toys, especially celluloid dolls. The so-called denunciation (rarely also mark ) consisted mostly of the intertwined letters "PH" in a standing on the top diamond , the additional abbreviation "DRP" signaled the protection of the German Patent and Trademark Office registered trademark and should be as before fakes and imitations protect.

In addition to the dolls, the toys are also collected today . The manufacturer produced, for example, small animals that children could use to simulate a farm , but also " rocking geese ", rocking animals , stand-up figures and "swimming animals " . The products were to dealers by catalog and a four-digit number in the dozens sells and wholesale settled.

Fusion with Schildkröt

1926 merged the company with another celluloid factory in Offenbach am Main . In 1929, "Hunaeus", as well as the Rheinische Gummi- und Celluloidfabrik , which produced the world-famous "Schildkröt dolls", were taken over by the IG Farben group : the merger of the "Rheinische" in Mannheim with the "Dr. Hunaeus ”documented a large newspaper advertisement showing the dolls of both manufacturers shaking hands.
