In 1919 he returned to his native town of Zerbst as a freelance painter. His pictures were represented at the annual exhibitions of the “Anhaltischer Kunstverein” in Dessau and at the “ Great Berlin Art Exhibition ” in 1921 and 1925 .

When the city center of Zerbst was destroyed on April 16, 1945, his studio and a large part of his work were also destroyed. In addition to his freelance work, he was temporarily employed as a teacher and graphic artist after the war. Disabled in his will, his estate is in the holdings of the Anhaltische Gemäldegalerie in Dessau-Roßlau .

In addition to the portraits of Kurt Demmel and attempts to Eike von Repgow to Picasso, his still lifes and the numerous landscape paintings as well as the pictures of his hometown are of importance.
