Paul Köttnitz

Paul Köttnitz (born April 28, 1875 in Hohenleuben , † December 2, 1954 in Bamberg ) was a German senior government councilor and local researcher .

Life

Paul Köttnitz spent his childhood mainly in Greiz , where his father was the personal physician of Prince Heinrich XXII. von Reuss was of the older line . He studied law at the University of Munich and graduated in 1898. He then began his civil service career as a legal assessor in Bamberg with the city council. From September 1, 1905, he was District Office Assessor in Bad Neustadt an der Saale . Because of his closeness to nature, he was at the same time engaged on the board of the Neustadt branch of the Rhön Club . Even in the early phase in Bad Neustadt, he was characterized by a special affection for the Rhön-Grabfeld region . In the city of Bad Neustadt, he was responsible for early decisions on monument protection . In 1909 he gave the then mayor of the city, Otto Hahn, a unique photo album on his 71st birthday, in which the city of Neustadt and the Rhön were depicted. This album is still in the possession of the city and is kept in the Bad Neustadt city archive. In 1912 Köttnitz was transferred to the Bamberg District Office. Eight years later he was appointed district administrator in Burglengenfeld . On October 1, 1929, he became head of the Bamberg district office . He held this post until his compulsory leave of absence on December 1, 1933. Because of his anti-fascist attitude, he had made himself unpopular with the new rulers of the NSDAP . He was considered a "Nazi eater". Köttnitz spent the last years of his life in Würzburg , where he barely survived the great bombing of March 16, 1945 . Because of his many services, he received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1952 . On December 2, 1954, Köttnitz collapsed dead in the counter hall of the Bayerische Staatsbank in Bamberg.
