Paul Kühmstedt

Paul Kühmstedt (born November 29, 1908 in Ulm , † November 25, 1996 in Ulm) was a German composer , conductor and musician .

He got his first contact with music through his father and later in violin lessons with Maier as well as in piano and organ lessons with Bäuerle in Ulm . From 1925 to 1929 he completed his music studies at the State Academy in Munich with Eduard Bach , piano , Hugo Röhr , conducting , and Karl Pottgieser and Fritz Müller-Prem , composition . After completing his studies, he initially worked as a répétiteur and conductor at the Stadttheater Memmingen , Theater Ulm (under Herbert von Karajan ) and in Kaiserslautern . During the summer months he was a conductor with the spa orchestra in Bad Tölz . From 1934 he worked as a freelance composer , music teacher and choir conductor in Heidenheim an der Brenz . Military service from 1939 to 1945 brought him to the Netherlands and France . After the war until 1948 he was arranger and director of the Stuttgart operetta and the chamber orchestra in Heidenheim. Kühmstedt returned to Ulm via Biberach an der Riss , where he was music director from 1952 to 1968. From 1954 to 1975 he was the conductor of the Stadtkapelle Ulm- Söflingen . From 1968 to 1974 he was also the conductor of the Knabenmusik Ulm , today's Junge Bläserphilharmonie Ulm . From 1975 to 1977 he conducted the Laupheim town band .
