Paul Knüpfer
Paul Knüpfer (born June 21, 1865 in Halle , † November 4, 1920 in Berlin ) was a German opera singer (bass).
Life
Knüpfer, the son of the cathedral cantor in Halle, actually wanted to study medicine, but from 1884 studied orchestral conducting in Sondershausen . It only had its voice trained on the side by Bernhard Günsburger . Despite his father's declared reluctance, he went on stage as a singer and made his debut in Sondershausen in 1887.
Then sang in Leipzig from 1888 to 1898 . From 1898 to 1920 he had an engagement at the Berlin Court Opera, which later became the State Opera .
Knüpfer's wife was the opera singer Marie Knüpfer-Egli (1872–1924). His sister Margarete Knüpfer was also an opera singer.
Paul Knüpfer died in Berlin in 1920 at the age of 55 and was buried in Cemetery I of the Jerusalem and New Churches in Kreuzberg . The grave has not been preserved.
