Paul David McShane (born January 6, 1986 in Kilpedder , County Wicklow ) is an Irish football player .
Club career
McShane began his football career at local club Greystones United. He also played for the St. David's school teams and then the St. Joseph's Boys.
In the summer of 2002, McShane joined the Manchester United Academy . In 2003 he played in the FA Youth Cup , in which ManU beat FC Middlesbrough 3-1. In the summer of 2004 he was used in some friendly games during the pre-season season in the professional team of Manchester, but did not appear in any competitive game. In December 2004 he was loaned to FC Walsall for a month , the following season he spent entirely on loan with the second division side Brighton & Hove Albion and was also named "Player of the Season" by the fans; took the last place in the table with the club. In the summer of 2006 McShane was transferred to West Bromwich Albion together with Luke Steele , in return Tomasz Kuszczak came to Manchester.
With West Brom, the defender took 4th place in the final table and thus reached the promotion play-offs, in which they lost 0: 1 in the decisive game Derby County . McShane had played 32 league games that season and his performances were worth the first division AFC Sunderland a transfer fee of up to 2.5 million pounds to secure the services of the defender.
From August 2009 to 2015, Paul McShane played for Hull City . During that time he was loaned out to Barnsley FC and Crystal Palace FC . McShane signed a contract with Reading FC in the summer of 2015 .
National team
McShane was appointed to the Irish squad by Steve Staunton in the course of the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and the Czech Republic . After the two regular central defenders with Andy O'Brien (injury) and Richard Dunne (sent off) were eliminated after the game against Cyprus , McShane made his debut in the game against the Czech Republic on October 11, 2006 in the national team. Since then, McShane has been used sporadically in the Irish national team and was also nominated for the EM 2012 , in which he was not used. His only goal in the national team so far is an own goal on March 29, 2016 to make it 2-2 in the friendly against Slovakia . On May 12, 2016 he was appointed by national coach Martin O'Neill in the provisional 35-player squad for the EM . In the end, he was not taken into account for the European Championship finals.
