Paul Meierhans

Paul Ulrich Meierhans (born August 30, 1895 in Tägerig ; † March 17, 1976 in Zurich ) was a Swiss journalist and politician ( SP ).

Meierhans obtained the teaching certificate at the Wettingen seminar in 1915 and became a teacher in Vordemwald . He then studied economics at the University of Zurich , where he received his doctorate in 1921 (dissertation "On the tax policy of Swiss social democracy" ). After working in public administration, he became a journalist. In 1943 he became editor-in-chief of popular law . From 1945 to 1951 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Dispatch Agency .

From 1935 to 1950 Meierhans was a member of the National Council , from 1950 to 1963 in the Zurich Government Council , where he was in charge of building the Zurich-Kloten airport and the first motorways . He defended the construction of the power plant Rheinau and the first nuclear power plant in Switzerland, Beznau I .

Meierhans was married to Marie Margrita Frank from 1923. He was a cousin of Gottlieb Duttweiler .

He found his final resting place in the Manegg cemetery .
