Paul Prien
Paul Prien (born January 10, 1885 in Magdeburg , † December 26, 1958 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was a German politician ( SPD / SED ) and editor of various newspapers .
Life
After graduating from high school , the merchant's son Prien worked in the administration of justice. He became a member of the SPD in 1907 and resigned from civil service. From 1908 to 1919 he was editor of the social democratic Brandenburger Zeitung , then an employee of the Hamburger Echo . From 1921 to 1928 he was editor of the Volksblatt for Anhalt in Dessau , from 1928 until the National Socialists banned all social democratic newspapers as editor of the Volksstimme . In 1933 Prien was temporarily arrested. During the Nazi regime , Prien was constantly under police supervision.
After the end of the war in 1945 he was a leading SPD member in Chemnitz and worked again for the social democratic people's voice . Prien was actively involved in the preparation for the unification of the SPD and KPD to form the SED . Since 1946 he was a member of the SED together with Horst Sindermann until 1952, equal editor-in-chief of Volksstimme as the SED organ for Chemnitz and the surrounding area.
