Paul Scherer

Paul Friedrich Scherer (born December 4, 1876 in Beilstein ; † April 11, 1940 in Tuttlingen ) was a Württemberg local politician and from 1908 to 1938 Lord Mayor of Tuttlingen.

Scherer comes from a family of teachers . Among other things, his father worked as a principal at a school in Stuttgart . Paul Scherer completed a degree in law and political science and then worked as a bailiff in Urach . In July 1908, he succeeded Julius Keck , who had previously been elected Lord Mayor of Göppingen , and became Lord Mayor of Tuttlingen. In 1921 and 1931 he was confirmed in office.

After the seizure of power by the Nazis in January 1933 Scherer remained in office, but declined in March 1933, the flag over the town hall in Tuttlingen with a swastika flag , first off. He only agreed to this when Reich President Paul von Hindenburg ordered this. The DC circuit of the Municipal Council in May 1933 led by Scherer. During Scherer's tenure, the new Tuttlinger train station opened in September 1933. In March 1938, Scherer retired and spent the rest of his life in Tuttlingen. His successor was Max Haug .
