Paul Strauss (born April 27, 1923 in Vipernitz , Güstrow district , † September 12, 1995 ) was a German politician and member of the GDR State Council .

Life

Paul Strauss grew up in a working class family and attended elementary school. From 1937 to 1939 he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and in 1941 joined the Hitler Youth . From 1941 to 1945 he participated in the Navy at the World War II in part. He was then a British prisoner of war in the IJmuiden camp (Netherlands) until 1947 . After his return he was from 1953 brigadier and foreman in the VEB Housing Combine Rostock . In 1955, Strauss was the initiator of the first complex brigade and, in 1959, played a key role in the introduction of object wages in the construction industry. After studying at the engineering college in Wismar from 1959, he was construction manager at VEB Housing Combine Rostock from 1962 to 1989.

Strauss was married and had three children.

In 1948 he joined the FDGB and in 1954 the SED . From 1953 to 1955 Strauss was a member of the district board of IG Bau / Holz in Rostock. From 1956 to 1960 he was a member of the central board of IG Bau / Holz. From 1959 to 1972 he was a member of the federal executive committee of the FDGB and until 1968 a member of its executive committee.

Political party

From 1958 to 1964 Strauss was a member of the SED district leadership in Rostock and from 1963 to 1967 a candidate, since 1967 a member of the SED Central Committee .

Member of Parliament and Council of State

From 1954 to 1958 he was a member of the Rostock district assembly . From 1963 to March 1990 he was a member of the People's Chamber and from November 1963 to January 1990 a member of the State Council of the GDR .

Awards

Strauss twice received the Hero of Labor award and in 1983 the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold and in 1988 the honor bar for the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.
