Paul Voitel

Paul Voitel (born December 5, 1895 in Niederwürschnitz , Amtshauptmannschaft Stollberg ; † August 28, 1963 in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. , Stollberg district ) was a German politician ( KPD / SED ) and trade unionist . He was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Voitel, the son of a miner , attended elementary school until 1909 , then worked in agriculture and from 1910 in mining. From 1915 to 1916 he did military service in World War I and was taken prisoner by the French , where he remained until 1920. After his return he became a member of the KPD and the union. He was one of the founders of the KPD local group in Niederwürschnitz. Voitel initially worked as a miner again, from 1922 to 1925 as a construction worker and then as a cutter . In 1924 he became a member of the Red Aid and from 1926 participated in exercises of the Red Front Fighter League . In 1926 he became a member of the works council in the “Gottes Segen” mine and founded the Niederwürschnitz trombone choir .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, Voitel took part in the resistance against National Socialism and worked as a miner until the end of the war.

From 1945 to 1948 he was chairman of the works council and from 1948 to 1953 chairman of the works union management on the shaft. From 1946 to 1949 he was a member of the state board of Saxony and from 1951 the central board of IG Bergbau . Since 1946 a member of the SED, from 1952 he was also a member of the SED district leadership in Chemnitz and candidate for their office. From 1953 to 1960 he worked as plant director at the “Karl Liebknecht” hard coal works in Oelsnitz and from 1960 worked in the control group at the Oelsnitz hard coal combine.

From 1950 to 1954 he was a member of the Stollberg district assembly and from 1954 to 1963 a member of the People's Chamber.
