Paul Alwin Zinck (born May 3, 1867 in Rochlitz ; † May 29, 1941 in Leipzig ) was a German educator, folklorist and local history researcher .

Life

Paul Zinck was born as the son of the organist and teacher Karl Friedrich Zinck in the northern foothills of the Ore Mountains . After attending elementary and secondary school in his hometown, he went to the teacher training college in Borna , which he graduated in 1887. He was only active as an assistant teacher in Reudnitz for a short time , as he soon made the decision to take up university studies. In 1891 he took up this at the University of Leipzig , where he studied pedagogy, history and philosophy and then did his doctorate on Isaak Iselin as a pedagogue . From then on Paul Zinck worked as a teacher at various schools in Leipzig until he was the last director of the later 50th elementary school in Kleinzschocher from 1915 until his retirement in 1932.

For him it was a matter of course that the teacher was of particular importance in imparting knowledge of local history. He himself set a good example.

In 1898 he joined the Association for Saxon Folklore, of which he headed the Leipzig branch from 1906. In 1923 this association was merged with the State Association of Saxon Homeland Security , whose local group leader Paul Zinck stayed in Leipzig. During this time numerous publications in the field of Saxon folklore and local history were made, mostly with direct reference to the trade fair city of Leipzig. He also founded the Mitteldeutsche Blätter für Volkskunde , which he edited as editor from 1920 together with Fritz Krause and Paul Kröber.

In 1939 he resigned from the chairmanship for reasons of age. He was made honorary chairman. Paul Zinck was also an active member of the Society for the History of Leipzig, the Leipziger Verkehrsverein and the Erzgebirgsverein .

Paul Zinck died in 1941 on a spring hike in Leutzscher Holz .
