Paul de Castro
Paul de Castro (* 1882 in Paris or Livorno ; † January 10, 1940 in Cabrières-d'Avignon ) was a French post-impressionist painter of British descent.
life and work
De Castro began studying fine arts at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris under Professors Fernand Cormon and Eugène Romain Thirion . From the beginning of the 20th century he began to exhibit in the Salon des Indépendants. He also regularly showed work at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and at the Salon d'Automne , of which he was a member for some time. At first, shortly after the turn of the century, he still worked in the French capital, but later in his life he was drawn to the countryside again and again, mainly to Provence . While at the beginning of his career he created a few interior depictions with people, de Castro devoted himself increasingly to landscape painting . He looked for his motifs in the parks of Paris and Provence. Furthermore, some genre scenes , still lifes and portraits were created .
Paul de Castro is a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
