Paul von Waldersee

Count Paul Hermann Otto von Waldersee (born September 3, 1831 in Potsdam , † June 14, 1906 in Königsberg in Franconia ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Paul von Waldersee came from the Prussian officer family Waldersee . His parents were the officer Eduard Graf von Waldersee (1793–1867) and his wife Laurette Emma von Alvensleben (1803–1875). Following family tradition, he joined the Prussian military in 1848 after finishing school.

In 1871 he finished his military career with the rank of major . For the rest of his life he occupied himself with musicological studies, especially as an editor for the Breitkopf & Härtel publishing house in Leipzig. From 1888 he lived in Königsberg in Franconia. His best-known works are the series of musical lectures he edited and the second edition of the Köchel catalog of Mozart's works .
