Paul von Woringen (born August 27, 1859 in Rotterdam , † August 28, 1928 Poortugaal (province of Zuid-Holland)) was a film director , producer and screenwriter of early German films .

Life

The second of eight children of German parents, Ernst Wilhelm Paul von Woringen was born in Rotterdam. He began his career as artistic director at the German film company DMB Deutsche Mutoskop- und Biograph GmbH , an offshoot of the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company . In January 1911 he became the company's general manager. He drove the production of feature films, mainly comedies and film dramas, and thus secured the company's existence in a time of rapidly developing public taste towards films with fictional plot. From 1913, von Woringen also worked as a director of his own films behind the camera. His directorial debut is probably Die Landstraße (1913) based on an original script by Paul Lindau and starring Carl Goetz as a vagabond unjustly accused of murder. From 1915 von Woringen made several films with and based on scripts by Lotte Neumann , the female star of the DMB film company. With dwindling success, he gave up his post at the DMB in 1921.

Only a few films by Paul von Woringen have survived, including the crime films Die Landstrasse and Der Rote Faden, made in 1915 .
