Paula Denk

Paula Denk (born January 18, 1908 , † January 9, 1978 in Munich ) was a German actress .

Live and act

Paula Denk began her career in 1930 at Berlin's Barnowsky Theaters. This was followed by commitments at other venues in the capital until the 1938/39 season, most recently the Volksbühne . From then until 1943 she was seen at Munich's Kammerspiele in the Schauspielhaus. On April 20, 1942, Paula Denk was appointed state actress by Adolf Hitler . Her last engagement in the Third Reich was in the 1943/44 season at Berlin's artist stages.

Paula Denk's first post-war engagement was at the Deutsches Theater, and from 1946 she had been a member of the Städtische Bühnen Düsseldorf (Schauspielhaus) for many years . Under the directorship of Gustaf Gründgens she was seen a. a. in Anton Chekhov's Die Möwe , as Rosalinde in William Shakespeare's As You Like It , as Nora in the Henrik Ibsen play of the same name , as Eliza in George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and as Pieperkarcka in Gerhart Hauptmann's Die Ratten .

She had appeared in many movies since the early 1930s. After the war she also worked in television productions. Paula Denk was married to her colleague Max Eckard .
