Paula Gosling

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paula Gosling , born in Paula Osius , (born October 12, 1939 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American- British crime writer who has lived in England since 1964 . Occasionally she writes under the pseudonyms Ainslie Skinner and Holly Baxter .

Life

As the daughter of an inventor from Detroit, Paula Osius had amazed her teachers at Wayne State University in Detroit with her poetry skills . After graduating from university, she worked as a copywriter in a local advertising agency. Dissatisfied with the work there and looking for adventure and romance, she and a friend moved to England at the age of 25. In a London advertising agency she met her future husband Christopher Gosling , whom she married in 1968. The marriage produced two daughters, Abigail and Emelie. This period of time determined the basis of her writing: while her husband was working, Gosling felt underutilized and began to write herself. The very first novel, A Running Duck (dt. Killing is a lonely business) was a success and secured her 1978 award for the best first novel of the British Crime Writers' Association (CWA).

The marriage with Christopher Gosling divorced in 1977. In 1981 Paula Gosling married businessman John Hare , but continued to use the surname Gosling for her subsequent publications. Gosling lives in Bath in the west of England.

Paula Gosling is a member of the British Crime Writers' Association (CWA), where she was a board member from 1984 to 1990 and chairman of the CWA committee in 1988/1989. Many of her novels are available in German translation.
