Paulo Gonçalves (born February 5, 1979 in Gemeses ; † January 12, 2020 in Layla ) was a Portuguese motorcycle racer .

Career

Gonçalves has won multiple titles in various motocross , supercross and enduro competitions and was a top 10 driver in the Dakar Rally . He took since 2006 mainly for the Honda - factory team participated in the Dakar Rally. In 2015 , he finished second behind Marc Coma . In 2020 he switched to the Indian Hero team.

Death at the Dakar Rally

At the 2020 edition of the Dakar Rally, Gonçalves crashed a Hero 450 Rally during the 7th stage on January 12th. After he was found unconscious in cardiac arrest by Toby Price , Luc Alphand and Štefan Svitko and reanimated by the rescue team, he was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital in Layla , where he was pronounced dead.
