Dakar Rally 2020
The 2020 Dakar Rally is the 42nd edition of the Dakar Rally and the 41st that will actually be held. It will take place for the first time in Saudi Arabia .
route
The rally started in Jeddah on January 5, 2020 and is expected to lead over 12 stages to Riyadh . The length of the rated route is approx. 5000 km. Although this time the route only leads through one country - Saudi Arabia - the route is very diverse. While the first stages take place in a rather mountainous terrain, the second part of the rally runs through the Rub al-Khali desert .

On January 5, 2020, 342 vehicles in all classes started. For the first time, the two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso took part in the event.
On January 12, 2020, Portuguese motorcyclist Paulo Gonçalves died after a fall. On January 17, 2020, the Dutch motorcyclist Edwin Straver died as a result of a fall during the eleventh stage.
