cars

Stéphane Peterhansel won the car classification for the sixth time and thus achieved his twelfth Dakar victory. It is the first victory for the Peugeot factory team since 1990.

In the first week the nine-time world rally champion Sébastien Loeb dominated the action in his Peugeot, but the Dakar debutant lost a lot of time in the later stages due to driving errors and damage to the vehicle, so that in the end he fell back to ninth place. His team mate Cyril Despres drove in the car classification for the second time and achieved seventh place.

The X-Raid Minis, who had won the Dakar Rally in the past four years, could only claim three stage wins. The best mini driver was last year's winner Nasser Al-Attiyah , who finished second, just under 35 minutes behind. Former WRC driver Mikko Hirvonen took part in the Dakar for the first time. He won a special test and finished fourth in the overall standings.
