Paulos Mantovanis

Paulos Mantovanis ( Greek Παύλος Μαντοβάνης Pavlos Mandovanis ; born November 21, 1945 in Larnaka , British Crown Colony of Cyprus ; † October 1, 2011 in Nicosia , Republic of Cyprus ) was a Cypriot Orthodox clergyman and bishop of Kyrenia .

Life

Paulos Mantovanis attended an English-language school in Nicosia and then the Panzyprian high school , which he graduated with apolytirion . After completing his 26-month military service in the Cypriot National Guard , he began studying at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens in 1968 , which was made possible by a scholarship from the Greek Orthodox Church . He graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1972 .

After his return to Cyprus he served in the Church of Cyprus as lay priest, sexton and teacher at the seminary of the Apostle Barnabas . In 1977 he went to Oxford University , where he studied history and theology. In 1985, he was here with the dissertation The Eucharistic Theology of Nicholas Cavasilas for doctor of philosophy doctorate . In 1980 he became Bishop Barnabas of Salamina the deacon , on 4 October 1981 by Archbishop Chrysostomos I. for priests ordained. On April 5, 1994, he was elected Bishop of Kyrenia by the Holy Synod of Cyprus. It was consecrated on April 10th in the Evangelismos Church in Pallouriotissa, a district of Nicosia.

Mantovanis died on October 1, 2011 at the age of 65 in a hospital in Nicosia after suffering from leukemia for a long time .
