Paul Hoffaeus
Paul Hoffaeus (also Paulus Hoffaeus or Hofer ; * around 1525 in Münster near Bingen ; † December 17, 1608 in Ingolstadt ) was a German Jesuit .
Life
Hoffaeus attended the collegiate school at St. Martini in Emmerich . This was followed by a study of philosophy at the University of Cologne . In 1552 he was one of the first students of the Collegium Germanicum in Rome and in 1554 was accepted into the Jesuit order by Ignatius von Loyola . In 1557 he was ordained a priest and was named Dr. theol. PhD . From 1558 to 1561 he was rector of the Jesuit College in Prague , 1562 in Vienna and 1563 to 1564 in Ingolstadt and from 1564 to 1566 in Munich .
Hoffaeus was vice provincial from 1567 to 1569 and then until 1581 as the successor to Petrus Canisius provincial of the Upper German order province. From 1581 to 1591 he was assistant and admonitor of the order general in Rome, then from 1594 to 1597 visitor of the German order provinces. Then he was rector of the college in Ingolstadt.
