Paulus I. Zeller

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paulus I. Zeller (* in Heidingsfeld , today Würzburg , † June 29, 1563 in Ebrach ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Ebrach from 1562 to 1563 .

Life

Paulus I. Zeller was born in the second half of the 15th or first half of the 16th century in Heidingsfeld in Lower Franconia , which is now part of the city of Würzburg. The sources are silent about the parents of the future abbot, nor are any siblings of Paul mentioned. Likewise, Zeller's school education is not mentioned, he probably first attended a Latin school and then began studying at the nearby University of Würzburg .

Profess Paulus rose quickly within the Ebrach monastery. Initially, as a bailiff in Oberschwappach, he was responsible for the administration of a monastery office. Later he took over the office of Oberschwarzach and headed the Ebracher Hof in Würzburg. Thereupon he returned to the monastery and was now appointed prior . In 1562 the monks elected him their thirty-fourth abbot. Paulus I. Zeller died after only 17 months in office and was buried in the monastery church.
