Paulus Roetter

Paulus Roetter (born January 4, 1806 in Nuremberg , † November 11, 1894 in St. Louis ) was a German-American landscape and plant draftsman.
Live and act
Paulus Roetter studied art in Düsseldorf and Munich . In 1825 he settled in Switzerland . There he taught art and painted landscape miniatures. In 1845 he emigrated to St. Louis in the United States . He worked as a Protestant pastor and teacher. For George Engelmann he made all the drawings for his monograph Cactaceae of the Boundary , published in 1859, about the cactus plants in the Mexican border area. After the American Civil War , Roetter moved to Cambridge to work with Louis Agassiz at Harvard University . He became a lecturer in botanical drawing at Agassiz's Anderson School of Natural History on Penikese Island . In 1884 Roetter returned to St. Louis.
Honor taxon
George Engelmann named the species Cereus roetteri of the cactus family (Cactaceae) in his honor .
