Pauluskirche

The Evangelical Lutheran Pauluskirche is a listed church building in the Hanover district of Südstadt . It is at the intersection of Meterstrasse and Bürgermeister-Fink-Strasse.

History and architecture

After discussions between the church council in 1882 and the representative of the Royal Consistory , Abbot Gerhard Uhlhorn , the foundation stone was laid on November 10, 1883 . Three years later, the building was completed according to plans by Rudolph Eberhard Hillebrand , a student of the consistorial architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase . The three choir windows were designed by Alexander Linnemann from Frankfurt. The paintings in the church also came from his studio.

On October 9, 1943, the church was largely destroyed in an air raid on Hanover . In 1957/58 the church was rebuilt, maintaining the basic structure of pillars and walls and the neo-Gothic style . Instead of the formerly slender spire, the tower was given a rather massive attachment.

Together with the Nazareth Church, it is one of the two churches of the Evangelical Lutheran Südstadt congregation in Hanover, the largest congregation in the Hanover City Church Association with 10,000 congregation members .

Organs

In 1886 the first two-manual organ from the Becker company from Hanover was installed. It was expanded in 1926 by the Furtwängler and Hammer company to include a manual, 13 stops and 3 transmissions in the pedal according to the specifications for organ movement . This organ was completely destroyed in 1943. After the restoration of the church in 1958, the small positive organ from the parish hall was placed in the church.

The Danish organ builder Marcussen & Søn completed the new organ in 1965. Hauptwerk, Rückpositiv, Brustwerk and Pedal as well as the disposition draw on baroque models. All pipes are made of metal . The instrument has 37 registers on three manuals and a pedal.
