Pavel Štefka

Pavel Štefka (born September 15, 1954 in Ruda nad Moravou ) is a Czech general (appointed May 8, 2006) and predecessor of Vlastimil Picek as Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces .

Life

Štefka is a graduate of the Army College in Vyškov (Vysoká vojenská škola pozemního vojska ve Vyškově, graduated in 1977) and the Academy of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces in Warsaw ( postgraduate studies , graduated in 1985). He also graduated from the National War College in Washington, DC (1998–1999).

Štefka experienced the emergence of the Czech Republic on January 1, 1993 as a lecturer at the Brno Military Academy , after having previously been responsible for issues relating to the operational management of a tank division . In 1994 he became commander of the 6th Mechanized Brigade, also stationed in Brno (which existed from 1994 to 1997) and in 1996 he was deputy commander of the 2nd Army Corps in Olomouc . When the corps was transferred to the Land Forces Command (velitelství pozemních vojsk) in 1997 , he took over the post of Chief of Staff there . In 2000 he moved to the General Staff , where he initially acted as head of the main operational management department. Two years later he was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces; he held this post until 2007.

In 2008, Štefka started working as a consultant for the Tatra automobile manufacturer .

In addition to his mother tongue, Štefka speaks English and Polish. He is married and has three daughters.
