Pavel Fischer (born August 26, 1965 in Prague ) is a Czech diplomat and politician. He ran in the 2018 presidential election .

career

From 1984 to 1990, Fischer studied at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague , then at the Center International de Formation Chrétienne in Geneva and at the École nationale d'administration in Strasbourg . He then taught French at a high school in Prague and was secretary to Bishop František Lobkowicz from 1991 to 1993 .

From 1995 to 2003, Fischer held managerial positions in the presidential office under President Václav Havel . In 2003 he was appointed Czech ambassador to France and Monaco , an office that Fischer held until 2010. He then returned to Prague and was head of the multilateral security section in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 2013 . Fischer was also an advisor to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic and to Minister of Culture Daniel Herman .

After more than ten senators supported his candidacy, Fischer ran as an independent candidate in the January 2018 presidential election . He was third with 10.23 percent of the vote and supported Jiří Drahoš in the runoff election .

In the 2018 Senate election , Fischer won a mandate in the Prague 12 constituency .
