Pavel Roučka
Pavel Roučka (born June 20, 1942 in Prague ) is a Czech artist in the field of expressionist painting and graphic artist.
Life
Roučka completed a degree in geodesy and cartography between 1958 and 1960 . From 1968 to 1969 he was responsible for the scenography for animated films in Belvisiun , Brussels. From 1974 he made his first attempts at graphic art in addition to painting, creating figural compositions and paraphrases of pictures from the Renaissance (a combination of gravure printing techniques and cast varnishes). From 1977 he dealt with lithography , he produces original prints with biblical themes. On the recommendation of the Frederikshavn Museum in Denmark for his prints, Roucka was commissioned to illustrate the editions The Castle and Diary by Franz Kafka .
After 1980, Roucka devoted himself to both drawing and lithography. In 1988 he finally returned to painting. Franz Kafka's work The Castle formed the basis for two large-format paintings. His large-format works were exhibited as part of the exhibition of contemporary Czech artists "Inoffiziell" in the Minoritenkirche in Regensburg. The exhibition Czech Art at the Time of the Velvet Revolution with works by Roucka was shown at the Nassau County Museum in New York. In 1993 Roucka was a guest artist at the “Maisalon” in the Grand Palais in Paris and took part in the Maastricht Biennale for printmaking. A year later he was represented at the International Triennial for Printmaking in Cracow.
In 1995 Roucka completed an advanced training course at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris. In 1996 he took over the direction of the lithography class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht, Netherlands. In 2000, Roucka took part in the Symposium Crossing Borders of the Selb Art Association in Marktredwitz . In the same year he created the marl stone wall Homage to Prague in the Mercedes Forum in Prague.
Since 1993 he has also led the painting class at the Summer Academy in Frauenau , Germany, during the summer months .
Pavel Roucka has had more than a hundred solo exhibitions in galleries and museums in the Czech Republic, Germany, France, USA, Tunisia, Japan, Denmark, Great Britain, Holland, Canada and Poland. He also took part in numerous international group exhibitions and shows about Czech art in the Czech Republic, the USA, Germany, France, Japan, Denmark, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Poland and Brazil.
Prizes and awards
- 1969 painting grant from the Association of Czech Fine Artists in Prague
- 1988 Prize winner of the International Biennale Lodz (for printmaking).
- 2003 Chevalier de l´ Ordre des Palmes Académiques .

Works by Pavel Roucka can be found in the National Gallery in Prague , the Czech Ministry of Culture and Foreign Affairs, Charles University in Prague and in international public and private collections, e.g. B. Portland Art Museum, USA.
Solo exhibitions
Roučka first exhibited in 1989 in the Dílo Gallery, Přerov, Czech Republic. This was followed by regular exhibitions in international galleries, around 1992 in the Museum Eger , Czech Republic, 1999 at Ratilly Castle , Treigny, France, 2004 in the Gallery of Fine Arts, Paris, France, 2007 in the Minoritenkirche , Städtisches Museum, Regensburg, 2010 in the European Art forum, Saarländische Galerie , Berlin and in the district gallery , Neuburg am Inn Castle .
