Peder Jensen Lodehat , Latinized Petrus Johannis Lodehat († October 19, 1416 ) was a Danish bishop and close confidante of the regent Margarethe I.

Life

His parents, his place of birth and his date of birth are unknown.

He belonged to a noble family from Zealand . In its coat of arms this had a man's head with a round headgear similar to a Jewish hat . Hence their nickname , which the family members never used themselves. Peder Jensen is mentioned for the first time in November 1375, when Margaret I enfeoffed canon Peder Jensen with land in Udby immediately after the death of his father in Roskilde Cathedral . In 1382 she gave him the diocese of Växjö . It was part of her policy to occupy the dioceses with well-trained men of the lower nobility , who were then loyal to her. Her political goal was to gain the broadest possible loyal support for the election of her son Olav as king.

When the diocese of Aarhus became vacant in 1386 , Peder Jensen was transferred there. In the following year he participated as the Danish Reichsrat in the election of Margaret I as "authorized guardian of the Reich". From then on he remained by her side as a friend and advisor until her death. In 1395 he took over the Diocese of Roskilde , became Chancellor and kept the imperial seal.

He took part in important union meetings in Helsingborg and on Lindholmen in 1395 and in the following year in the meeting with Gerhard VI. in Assens when the question of the feudal obligations of the Schaumburgers to the newly elected King Erich first arose. In 1397 he and others sealed the Treaty of Kalmar. He also supported Margarethe financially with the funds of his diocese. In 1401 he had a loan claim of at least 40,000 Lübische Marks against this and received Skanør and Falsterbo with the associated customs income as a pledge, which was redeemed in 1407. He particularly took care of the nunnery founded by Margarethe of the Dominicans of Saint Agnethe ( Agnes ) in Gaunø. He was also entrusted with administering Margaret's large financial endowments for churches, monasteries and the poor in all three realms . In July 1413 he passed the judgment on the feudal court in Nyborg against the Holstein nobility and declared the family of Henry III. von Schauenburg-Holstein forfeited the fief of Schleswig because of a violation of the law.

In addition to his political work, he also campaigned for church issues. In Aarhus Cathedral he donated an altar to the Holy Cross and in Roskilde Cathedral he built a chapel dedicated to Saint Siegfried, the patron saint of Växjö.
